First-time setup
- Remove all protective film, stickers and packing materials.
- Place the machine on a safe, stable surface near an outlet, with some space on each side.
- Slide the external drip tray into the machine until it is secure.
- Fill the water tank (see Filling the water tank).
- Fill the bean container with coffee beans (see Filling the bean container).
- Unwind the power cord, plug it into the back of the machine, then into the wall outlet.
Before your first cup: run the Hot Water function to rinse the inside of the machine.
In the box: a pack of cleaning agent for descaling.
Filling the water tank
When the water light flashes, the tank is low or missing.
- Lift the water tank out using the lid as a handle.
- Rinse it with fresh water, fill to the MAX line, and set it back in place.
Important: Always fill the tank outside the machine — don't pour water into the machine directly. Use cool, still drinking water only. Never use warm, hot or sparkling water or other liquids.
Filling the bean container
When the bean light flashes, it's time to add beans.
- Lift off the bean container lid.
- Fill with whole coffee beans.
- Put the lid back on.
Important: Whole beans only. Ground, instant or caramelized coffee (or anything else) can damage the grinder.

Making coffee
Coffee: Espresso or Lungo
- Press Power. Make sure the drip tray is under the spout and the tank has water. The machine rinses itself with a little water when it turns on (press Hot Water to stop the rinse).
- Wait for the machine to reach standby.
- Put a cup under the spout and slide the spout up or down to fit your cup. For a tall cup, you can remove the drip tray.
- Press Espresso or Lungo.
- The button lights up while your coffee brews. Press it again to stop early.
- When the machine returns to standby, your coffee is ready.
Tip: Espresso is the more intense of the two. You can change how much each button pours (see Settings).
Americano
- Put a cup under the spout.
- Press Americano. The machine pours the coffee first, then hot water.
- It stops on its own. Press the button again to stop early.
Hot water
- Put a cup under the spout.
- Press Hot Water.
- It stops on its own. Press the button again to stop early.
Coffee + (stronger cup)
- With the machine on and ready, press Coffee + first. It will flash.
- Then press the coffee button you want. The machine grinds more beans for a stronger cup.
Settings
Set your own cup size
- When making Espresso, Lungo, Americano or Hot Water, press and hold that button. The machine keeps pouring.
- Let go when you have the amount you want. Two beeps mean the new amount is saved.
Adjust the grind
Turn the adjuster knob in the bean container to change the grind. The dots on the knob show how fine or coarse the grind is.
Warning: Only turn the knob while the grinder is running. Turning it when the grinder is stopped can damage it.
Auto shut-off time
- In standby, press and hold Power for 5 seconds.
- The lit-up button shows the current setting. Press a different button to change it:
- Espresso — 10 minutes
- Lungo — 20 minutes (default)
- Americano — 30 minutes
- Coffee + — 120 minutes
- To keep the current setting, press Power again or wait 5 seconds.
Auto-rinse
- Default: the machine rinses itself only when it turns on cold. If it was used shortly before, it skips the rinse.
- Always rinse: in standby, press and hold Power and Hot Water together. The machine will now rinse every time you turn it on.
Warning: Rinse water from the spout is hot and collects in the drip tray. Keep hands clear.
Turning off
Press Power. The machine also turns itself off after the auto shut-off time you've set.
Daily cleaning
Drip tray and grounds container (every day)
- Pull out the external drip tray. Empty it, rinse with fresh water and dry.
- Slide out the internal drip tray and grounds container. Empty, rinse and dry.
- Put the grounds container back in the internal drip tray.
- Slide the drip tray back into place.
When the grounds container light comes on, the container needs emptying.
Brewer
- Press gently on the bottom of the service door to open it, then remove the door.
- Press the release knob on the brewer and pull it out.
- Rinse the brewer under running water. Let it dry completely.
- Put the brewer back and replace the service door.
Water tank
- Lift out the tank and rinse with fresh water.
- Fill with drinking water to the MAX line and put it back.
Descaling (about once a month)
When the descale light stays on, it's time. Descale at least once a month, or more often if you have hard water.
- Fill the water tank completely.
- Add one pack of the cleaning agent that came with the machine to the tank.
- Plug in the machine.
- Put a large container under the coffee spout.
- In standby, press and hold Power and Espresso together for 5 seconds. You'll hear two beeps; the descale light comes on and Espresso flashes.
- Press Espresso to start. (To cancel and return to standby, press Power.)
- The descale light flashes while descaling runs.
- When the tank runs empty, the water and Espresso lights flash. Pour out any leftover solution and fill the tank with plain tap water to MAX. When the tank is back in, descaling continues.
- The machine turns itself off when descaling is done.
Important: Don't use vinegar or other descalers — only the cleaning agent included with your machine. Keep skin away from the hot water. Be patient and let the cycle finish; don't turn the machine off manually.
Other care
Empty System (before storage or long breaks)
Use this before you won't use the machine for a long time, to protect it from freezing, or before sending it for service.
- In standby, press and hold Power and Lungo together for 5 seconds.
- The empty-system light flashes.
- Remove the water tank. The light stays on while the system empties. (To cancel before removing the tank, press Power.)
- The machine turns off when it's done.
Next time you use it: press Hot Water until water comes out of the spout.
Cleaning the outside
- Unplug the machine.
- Empty both drip trays.
- Wipe with a damp cloth or a non-scratch cleaner.
Important: No abrasive cleaners, vinegar or descalers other than the one included.
Cleaning the coffee powder outlet
Over time, coffee powder can stick inside the outlet. Clean it now and then:
- Press the service door's recessed area and remove the door.
- Press the release knob and take the brewer out.
- Rinse the brewer under running water and let it dry completely.
- Use the cleaning brush to clear grounds from the powder outlet.
- Wipe the inside of the machine with a cloth and dry it fully.
- Put the brewer back and close the service door.
Troubleshooting
The machine doesn't turn on
Check that it's plugged in, then press Power. Check the cord and plug.
Buttons don't respond, or respond slowly
Unplug the machine and restart it after a few minutes. Wipe the control panel with the included cloth. Press the lower part of each button, from the front.
Coffee isn't hot enough
Run the rinse at least 3 times before making coffee, and warm your cup first.
No coffee comes out of the spout
If Empty System was used, press Hot Water until water comes out of the spout.
The first cup tastes off
The first grind may not fill the brewer fully. Pour that cup out — the next ones will be fine.
Coffee has no crema
Your beans may not be fresh. Try fresh beans.
The machine takes a long time to warm up
Scale has built up. Descale the machine.
Water tank is out or low, but there's no alert
Wipe dry the area around the water tank connector.
Lots of water in the internal drip tray, or coffee comes out slowly
The grind is too fine and is blocking the water. While the grinder is running, turn the knob to a bigger dot.
Bean light flashes but there are still beans
Clean the coffee powder outlet (see Other care). Stir the beans with a spoon. If the beans are oily or sticky, wipe out the bean container with a cloth.
Descale light keeps flashing after descaling
Descaling isn't finished. Let it run — the machine turns off on its own when done. Don't switch it off manually.
